A weather warning from the continent…

When you’re planning a new building of revamping an existing one, drainage solutions may be high up on your list of priorities. Let’s face it, British weather isn’t renowned for being particularly dry. Without the right rainwater drainage systems in place, your buildings could be at serious risk of water damage.

The good news is, it’s now simple to access top-quality solutions. Here at Alumasc we specialise in this field and should be perfectly placed to help you.

Floods in Europe

This summer got off to a distinctly soggy start in many places across mainland Europe and if you were watching the news, you might have seen this as a weather warning from the continent. Seeing communities trying to deal with rising water levels like this can serve as a great incentive to sort out your own drains.

One of the cities affected by the floods was Magdeburg in east Germany. After a dam burst on the swollen River Elbe, around 23,000 people were forced to leave their homes. MP Gerda Hasselfeldt was quoted by the Leipziger Volkszeitung newspaper as stating the country was dealing with a “national catastrophe”.

Meanwhile, in Hungary, 1,200 individuals had to up sticks in case flood defences in the capital were breached. Poland was also affected, with the capital Warsaw flooded after hours of heavy rain. One of the city’s busiest motorways was inundated with water and firefighters had to help stranded drivers to safety.

Of course, when rain levels reach a certain point, it can be impossible to prevent damage to buildings and infrastructure. However, in the face of considerable rainfall levels, the pragmatic approach is to take reasonable precautions to reduce the risk of costly mishaps.

As part of your strategy, you might choose to take advantage of top-quality roof and soil drainage systems.

Greater peace of mind

Knowing that you’ve taken practical measures to make your property more resistant to the effects of rainfall can provide you with greater peace of mind.

A good investment

Of course, benefiting from systems like this does require a little investment, but this should prove to be money well spent. Over the long-term, it could prevent or reduce harm to your property, thus saving you repair bills, not to mention anxiety and stress.

The important thing to bear in mind when you’re considering solutions like this is, pre-emptive action is crucial. It’s no good adopting a ‘wait and see’ approach. This leaves your buildings vulnerable to bad weather. Realising your property lacks the necessary drainage systems when it’s already too late is a terrible feeling.
